Meet Mike, sketch card artist, portrait artist and cartoonist!
Born and raised in southern Massachusetts, but transplanted to Colorado in 2003, Mike was shaped by 80’s culture, immersed in slasher movies, Stephen King novels, Garbage Pail Kids and Mad magazine. Driven to merge his passions into a career, he embarked on a four-year commercial art program at a school in his home town. Mike’s journey began as a designer for Titleist Golf in Fairhaven, MA, crafting illustrations for co-branded packaging featuring major licenses like Apple, Nintendo/Zelda, and Hard Rock Cafe, as well as television and film properties.
Eight years later, seeking new horizons, he ventured to Colorado. In early 2018, Mike joined the art team at Topps Trading Cards/Fanatics and began illustrating sketch cards for the Star Wars franchise. Shorty after, he began also working on the Garbage Pail Kids license. Mike has been illustrating under the two licenses for many years as a sketch card artist, and in 2024, Mike started writing gags and painting final art for Garbage Pail Kids.
Through the years, Mike has worked with many other card companies (Upper Deck,/Fleer, Monster Wax, RJF, Horrible Kids) creating art for licenses such as Stranger Things, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Looney Tunes, Night of the Living Dead and many more. Beyond Topps, you can find Mike’s work in Freaky Magazine, collateral for films and television, at comic cons and art shows around the country and as an “actor” in such films as Dead Zone (2021) which stars Michael Jai White, and as one of the Glowzies in the 2024 horror-comedy, the Glowzies, which starred James Remar, Michael Dorn, and many others! More to come…
